OREM, UTAH ? Chelsea Goosen provided the only goal in a defensive battle, as the South Dakota State soccer team defeated Utah Valley State 1-0 Friday in Orem, Utah.
Goosen, a sophomore from Olathe, Kan., scored in the 25th minute, beating Utah Valley State goalkeeper Kelley Thompson inside the box.
The SDSU defense recorded its fourth shutout of the season, holding the Wolverines to only one shot on goal.
Overall, the Jackrabbits outshot Utah Valley State 11-5, including an 8-3 second half advantage. Goosen and Kellyn Farrell each recorded two shot attempts to lead the Jackrabbits.
Thompson recorded five saves for the Wolverines, while SDSU goalkeeper Nicole Lograsso saved the only Utah Valley State shot on goal.
SDSU improved to 5-9-2 on the year, while the Wolverines fell to 5-9-1.
The Jacks finish out the regular season tomorrow in Orem, taking on NCAA Division II member Dixie State (Utah). Kickoff is scheudled for 3 p.m. (MT).
