SHREVEPORT, La. -- Junior Danni Healy notched her first goal of the year, as the Jackrabbit women's soccer team opened the Summit League schedule with a 1-0 win over Centenary Friday night. The win improves South Dakota State to 3-0 in Summit League openers.
Healy scored in the 70th minute after picking up a Tory Schiltgen shot that ricocheted off the post for the games only score. The goal is Healy's first of the season and seventh of her career.
The win brings the Jacks to .500 with a 4-4-2 record while the Ladies, who entered the match with the Summit League's best record, falls to 8-2.
Dani Pappas started in-net and went the distance, securing her second win and shutout of the season. Pappas stopped four in the first and didn't need to record a save in the second, as the Jacks defense held Centenary to one second-half shot.
The Jacks held a 24-6 advantage in shots including 15-1 in the second half. SDSU also held a commanding 8-1 edge in corner kicks in the victory.
SDSU continues their Summit League play at Oral Roberts on Sunday at noon. Oral Roberts dropped their Summit opener to North Dakota State, 2-1 in overtime.
