ST. PAUL – The South Dakota State soccer team opened the 2009 season on Friday at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul, the same place the 2008 season ended in the NCAA College Cup, and with similar results.
Playing in front of 987 fans on a beautiful night in the Twin Cities, No. 19 Minnesota scored a pair of goals in each half on Friday and kept the Jackrabbits off the scoreboard as the Golden Gophers cruised to a 4-0 win over SDSU in the both team's season opener.
Four different players scored goals for the Gophers, who outshot the Jacks 15-2, including an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.
Cat Parkhill played went the distance for Minnesota in net to pick up the win.
The Jackrabbits open their home schedule when they return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. against the Creighton Bluejays at Fishback Soccer Park.
