BROOKINGS, S.D. - Chelsey Poole gave the South Dakota State women's soccer team the one-up Friday as the Jackrabbits shutout Oral Roberts 1-0 at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings, S.D.
The win improves the Jacks to a 10-3-4 overall record and 5-2-1 in the Summit League while the Golden Eagles drop to 4-3-1 in the conference.
Poole found the back of the net in the 42nd minute of the match off a cross by Steph Peterson. The goal marks her second on the season.
The Golden Eagles couldn't beat Jackrabbit goalkeeper Elisa Stamatakis and the scoring ended at 1-0.
"Our backs were up against the wall and I am very proud of how we responded tonight," said head coach Lang Wedemeyer. "ORU is a talented team and it was a good game tonight for the fans. Now we need to complete the weekend on Sunday."
Stamatakis ups her record to 10-2-3 and her eighth career shutout, as well as eighth shutout on the season. She tallied two saves during her 90 minutes in the net.
The Jacks outshot the Eagles 20-3, including 10-2 on-goal. Tory Schiltgen recorded four shots for the Jacks with two on goal, while six different Jacks recorded two shots each and four with one shot each.
The Jacks face the last regular season opponent Sunday when they host Centenary at 1 p.m. at Fishback Soccer Park.
Pending a win Sunday, the Jacks set up a solid chance to clinch a spot in the conference tournament next week.
