South Dakota State got 41 points in the paint and 38 from the bench in a well-balanced 84-57 win over Mayville State on Wednesday at Frost Arena to get back on the winning track and improve to 7-1 in the process.
The Comets, who scored just six points in the paint and got three from the bench, go back home to North Dakota with a 4-4 record after the loss.
Chad White led a trio of Jackrabbits in double figures with 15 points off the bench and added seven rebounds. Nate Wolters followed up his 36-point performance with 13 points and six assists, while Dale Moss rounded out the Jackrabbits double digit performers with 12 points.
Griffan Callahan scored eight points in the win and finished with a game-high nine rebounds for the Jacks, who out rebounded the Comets 51-29, including a 21-10 edge on the offensive glass, which resulted in 16 second chance points for the Jacks, compared to eight for the visitors.
Mayville State led by as many as nine points midway through the first half, but the Jacks came back with an 11-2 run to tie the game at 21-all with about eight minutes left to play, and then extended the run to 21-4 by the six minute mark.
SDSU led 43-30 at halftime, and continued to expand the lead throughout the second half to secure the win.
The Jackrabbits return to Frost Arena on Saturday to close out the season-long seven game home stand against Milwaukee at 7 p.m.
