ST. CLOUD, Minn. – South Dakota State swept the top three spots in each of the distance freestyle events, giving the Jackrabbit men's swimming and diving team the boost it needed in a 137-106 dual victory at St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon.
Junior Chris Angerhofer paced the Jackrabbits by winning both the 500- and 1,000-yard events with respective times of 4 minutes, 47.58 seconds and 10:01.07. Freshman Thomas Davey turned in a pair of top-three finishes, placing second in the 1,000 (10:02.63) and third in the 500 (4:56.52).
Matthew Carpenter, who was runner-up in the 500 freestyle, claimed the 200 freestyle with a winning time of 1:45.95 in the 200 freestyle.
Senior Ben Bolinske added a pair of victories for the Jackrabbits in the sprints. He won the 50-yard race in 21.41 seconds and turned in a winning time of 46.86 seconds in the 100. Teammate Tony Mikrut placed second in the 100 with a time of 48.19 seconds.
Bolinske and Mikrut formed one-half of the Jackrabbits' 400 freestyle relay team, which closed the dual with a victory. The duo teamed with Daniel Jacobson and Ben Johnson for a winning time of 3:09.10.
Jacobson and Garth Wadsworth rounded out the individual victories for SDSU. Jacobson won the 100 backstroke in 52.21 seconds, while Wadsworth claimed the 100 butterfly in 53.16 seconds.
The Jackrabbits, 3-1 in duals so far this season, wrap up the dual season Friday with a home meet against the University of South Dakota. Start time is 5 p.m. at the Marshall Center Pool.
