South Dakota State hits the road for the final weekend of the regular season as the Jacks are set to square off with a pair of top-four opponents in the Summit League table. SDSU has clinched its spot in the Summit League Tournament but there will still be plenty up for grabs when the Jacks take on Omaha Friday and Denver on Sunday.
"We always want to be playing meaningful games in late October and early November," head coach Brock Thompson said. "You have to do a whole lot of work in August and September to make that happen, and we're here. There are some very meaningful games ahead and there is no other group I'd rather be a part of as we head into this final stretch."
Entering the final weekend, Denver sits atop the league standings with 21 points while the Jacks stand in second place with 16 points. Omaha and USD are close behind, however, with 15 points each. USD also closes the regular season on the road against Denver and Omaha.
Kansas City (12 points) and Western Illinois (9 points) are also in the mix for a conference tournament berth, making for a high-stakes finish to the conference slate.
The Jacks are still very much alive in the race for the regular season title. With a Denver tie or loss Friday against USD, SDSU's Sunday game against the Pioneers would be for at least a share of the crown.
"We're in a good spot as a team right now," Thompson said. "We're closer as a team than we were a few weeks ago and we're ready for this. It will not be easy and each test is unique. There will be some challenges but this group embraces those kinds of challenges."
