USAFA, Colo. - South Dakota State (9-1-0) closed out non-conference play with a hard-fought victory over Air Force (3-3-1) on a rainy Monday evening in Colorado. The Jacks prevailed, 1-0, over the Falcons and secured their sixth, and third consecutive, shutout.
The game-winner came on an
Eden Brooker goal in the 69
th minute, assisted by
Cece Limongi.
Jocelyn Tanner made three saves to record her fourth shutout of the season.
Air Force had its best chance of the game in the 41
st minute but Tanner was equal to the task, making a point-blank save to keep the two sides knotted at zero. Neither squad could gain an upper hand after 45 minutes as they went into the break with six shots apiece and tied, 0-0.
SDSU turned up the pressure in the second half, outshooting the Falcons 6-1 in the final 45 minutes. The Jacks finally broke through in the 69
th minute when Limongi received a throw-in inside the box and fed a beautiful ball to a running Brooker who slid the ball past the Air Force keeper with her first touch.
The Jackrabbits possessed the ball for 53% of the match and sent five shots on goal compared to the Falcons' three.
Teani Arakawa was assessed a yellow card in the 23
rd minute.
