GAMES 11 & 12: South Dakota State (9-1-0) vs. Western Illinois (6-2-1) / St. Thomas (2-5-1) |
South Dakota State opens Summit League play as it hosts Western Illinois and St. Thomas Friday and Sunday, respectively, at Fishback Soccer Park. The Jackrabbits are coming off an open weekend, but have won four-straight games, including three consecutive shutouts.
Western Illinois, who was projected to finish last in the coaches' preseason poll, ranks second thus far in the standings with an 6-2-1 record and brings a seven-game unbeaten streak to Brookings. The first-place Jackrabbits look to defend their 28-game home unbeaten streak against the Leathernecks. Friday's matchup will feature two of the Summit League's top scorers this season in SDSU's Maya Hansen and WIU's Amy Andrews, each with seven goals on the year.
St. Thomas, which is in its first season after transitioning to the Division I level, will meet SDSU for the first time in program history Sunday afternoon.Â
