Texas A&M won four of the five reining matchups to pull out an 11.5-8.5 victory over South Dakota State in head-to-head women's equestrian action Saturday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.

Saturday's competition marked the first of the season for both squads.

The Aggies and Jackrabbits went into the final event tied at 7.5 points. After splitting the first two reining matchups, Texas A&M secured the team victory with consecutive wins by Malena Lopez, Taylor Masson and Lisa Bricker.

SDSU fared well in the jumping seat events, holding 3-2 advantages in both equitation over fences and equitation on the flat. In fences,
Margaret Franke was the Most Outstanding Performer with a score of 82 on Elliot, while
Cali Karbler (79) and
Rachel Darby (78) added individual wins.

Rachel Head on Sootar and
Hannah Steele aboard Enrique shared MOP honors for the Jackrabbits in equitation on the flat with scores of 83.
Julia Werkhoven picked up the other point for SDSU the event with a score of 78.5 on Fendi.

Texas A&M held the upper hand in the Western events thanks in part to a 3.5-1.5 edge in horsemanship.
Annika Hanson picked up a point for the Jackrabbits with a 71.5-point ride on Hooch, while
Grace Blake tied with the Aggies' Cori Cansdale with a score of 76.5 on George.

Amelia Nelson picked up the lone point for the Jackrabbits in reining with a score of 74.5.
