HOMER, Neb. - The South Dakota State men's golf team wrapped the final season with a second-place finish at the Throw Down Up Top Wednesday.
Luke Honner shot under par on all three rounds and placed second in the player standings.
The Jacks posted an 871 (-5) team tally, their second best score of the season, and was the only team under par aside from first-place Creighton (841, -35).
"I'm really proud of this entire group," said head coach
Parker Edens. "From one to nine, they all had a great fall. We challenged them last spring to go home this summer and work really hard on their games. It's apparent to me they did that. It's so great to see each of them improving and making big strides."
Honner's 210 (-9) is his career-best 54-hole score. The sophomore finished the tournament with 15 birdies and an eagle over three rounds. Nine of his 12 rounds from this fall have been under par.
"What an awesome fall for Luke," Edens added. "Nine out of 12 rounds under par, I believe. He's knocking at the door of winning and we believe it's going to happen soon."
Ty Kretz finished in a tie for 11th place. His 71 (-1) Wednesday brought his 54-hole score to 221 (+2).
Bryson Mercier finished in a tie for 14th place (222, +3) and
Jonah Dohrer was the final scorer with a 227 (+8).
Lucas Schaefbauer finished in a tie for 46th (233, +14).
Four other Jackrabbits competed as individuals at the tournament.
Tucker D'Allaird and
Tyler Seeling tied for 16th place with matching 223 (+4) scorecards. March Lin posted a 45th-place finish (232, +13) and
Blake Schaper was 54th (238, +19).
