BROOKINGS, SD – South Dakota State will travel south to Vermillion for the Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday at the DakotaDome.

Competition on the Mildred J. Hillenbrand Memorial Track will kick off at 9:30 a.m. on both days with the multi-events. Field events will start at 3 p.m. on Saturday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Running events will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Five SDSU athletes look to defend their 2022 indoor league titles: Ben Olson (mile run, 3,000-meter run), Joseph Minor-Williams (5,000-meter run), Pierre Lear (60-meter hurdles), Rich-Ann Archer (60-meter dash) and Leah Hansen (5,000-meter run).

LAST TIME OUT: The South Dakota State University men's and women's track teams each took first in the SDSU Last Chance meet at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on Saturday.

A plethora of personal bests and individual event wins helped push each Jackrabbit team to the top of the team standings, as the women scored 270 points and the men finished with 162 points.

Brielle Dixon had herself a successful day, which started with breaking the women's 60-meter hurdle record. She sprinted across the finish line in 8.45 seconds to place herself atop the SDSU records, earn a new PR and win the event. Savannah Risseeuw (8.69) took second and Katelyn Darnell (9.12) finished sixth in the event finals.

Dixon then went on to clock a new personal best in the 60-meter dash finals, taking third place in 7.64 seconds to move to seventh on the all-time list. Rich-Ann Archer won the event with a 7.56 while Ashtyn Bertram was sixth in 7.72.

Archer also then won the 200-meter dash with a clocking of 24.56 and Bertram took second in 25.25 as Emily Rystrom finished within the top five with a 26.32. Robyn Dayton clocked a new PR of 28.87 in the event.

Jenna Johnson earned herself a PR in the women's 400-meter dash, clocking a 56.68 for second in the event and ninth on the all-time list. Erika Kuntz ran a 57.22 for third place and a new personal best and Rystrom claimed fifth in 59.21. Abby Hughes (eighth, 1:00.46) and Paige Kuchel (12^th, 1:02.94) each also earned new personal bests.

SDSU claimed four of the top five spots in the 600-meter run as Claire Beckman won the event with a time of 1:34.15. Harley Fischer was runner-up with a personal best time of 1:35.49, which is now sixth in school history, as Tori Glazier (1:36.45) came third and Laura Bogue (1:37.25, PR) was fifth.

Hannah Spoden finished as runner-up in the women's 800-meter run, clocking a 2:19.57.

Three Jackrabbits earned personal bests in the mile run, led by Nina Dawson's third place finish in 5:14.50. Kadense Dooley finished fourth in 5:16.71 while Abby Deutsch took sixth in 5:21.82.

In the 3000-meter run, Bridget Henne took fifth place with a time of 10:49.72 while Malorie Schmoll finished sixth in 10:58.03.

Annie Wendt won the triple jump with a mark of 37-06.50 as Emma Smith (35-03.00) came fifth, Camryn Brinkman (35-00.25) was sixth and Sydney Mouw (33-11.50) finished seventh.

Jaiden Boomsma won the long jump with her leap of 18-05.25 while Layne Kirkendoll took third with a mark of 17-05.50.

Madison Kizer cleared 5-07.00 for first place in the high jump while Hadley Carlson and Taylor Jochum each tied for second with a 5-02.00 and Kirkendoll cleared 5-01.00 for fourth. Dayton (4-09.25) notched a new personal best with a mark of 4-09.25.

Greta Johnson took sixth in the hpole vault with her mark of 10-02.00 while Nora Peterson finished eight with a 9-02.25.

Catylynn Duff claimed second place in the women's weight throw with a mark of 53-11.57 as Mildred Young took third with a personal best 53-03.75 and Marianne Robin finished fourth with a 52-10.00 for a PR. Kirsten Kilker (45-00.50) also earned a new personal best.

Four Jacks finished in the top five of the shot put, led by Faith Leiseth's 49-11.75 for first place. Duff earned a PR with her mark of 45-01.75, Amanda Pettersson was third with a personal best 43-01.75 and Paige Haakenson came fourth with a 42-06.25 for a PR. Kaitlynn Bot (38-06.75) also earned herself a new personal best.

The SDSU women finished in first with 270 points out of five teams while Sioux Falls (119) and Northern State (97) rounded out the top three.

On the men's side of competition, Ryan Benson took fourth place in the 60-meter hurdle finals with an 8.50 while Evan Henderson won the 60-meter dash in a personal best 6.85 seconds, now tied for sixth all-time, and Ty Kadlec took fifth with a 7.10.

Five runners earned PRs in the 200-meter dash, led by Henderson's second place finish in 22.13. Kadlec (22.61), Caden Plasier (22.94), Andrew Law (23.11) and Jeremiah Donahoe (23.38) all also earned new best marks.

Reggie Slaba finished as runner-up in the 400-meter dash, running a 48.53 for a new PR and the sixth fastest time on record. Jeremiah Donahoe was third in a personal best 49.73, Joey Anders came ninth in 51.01 and AJ Josephson ran a new PR of 51.77 for 12^th.

Andrew Moeller won the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.45 as Tyler O'Neill clocked a PR of 2:41.92 in the 1000-meter run for sixth place and a PR of 4:32.71 for seventh place in the men's mile.

Aiden Giffin took second place in the men's long jump with his personal best mark of 22-00.25 and Connor Powers finished as runner-up in the high jump with his mark of 6-05.25.

Sam Rohlfs won the triple jump with a mark of 43-09.25 while Tyler Goehring (40-00.50) finished fourth and Maximus Keefer (39-08.00) took seventh.

Matthew Katz won the pole vault with a clearance of 16-07.25 for a new PR and the second best mark in school history. Jaden Peter came third with a personal best 16-03.25 for fourth in school history, Ryan Karajanis was fourth with a 15-03.50 and Benson cleared a personal best 10-10.50 for 10^th.

SDSU placed four in the top five of the weight throw as Hunter Wallster won the event with a personal best mark of 63-07.00, now fifth on the all-time list. Calob Jones (60-04.00) was third, Dominick Etherington (60-01.00) finished fourth and Ethan Fischer (54-04.00) claimed fifth.

Etherington was then champion in the shot put with his throw of 59-07.75 while Wyatt Seagren took third with a personal best 53-07.50 and Brogan Seier was fourth with a 51-06.25.

SDSU men finished 162 points for first place in the team standings out of five teams as Sioux Falls (136) and Augustana (77) rounded out the top three.

ETHERINGTON HONORED BY SUMMIT: Dominick Etherington was selected as the TicketSmarter Summit League Men's Field Peak Performer of the week, league officials announced Feb. 7.

Etherington won the shot put at the USD Alumni Meet with a personal best throw of 60-03.75, which places him in second on the all-time list for SDSU and in first of the Summit League standings. He also took second with a career best mark of 61-09.00 in the weight throw that now puts him seventh on the school record list and third on the league performance list this season.

Etherington is the latest Jackrabbit to earn the weekly accolade this season, joining two-time honoree Pierre Lear (Dec. 6 and Dec. 13) and Reid Pierzinski (Jan. 30)

REGIONAL RANKINGS: The fifth Division I Track and Field rankings of the season determined by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association were announced earlier this week with the Jackrabbit men fell two spots to 20^th and the women maintained their spot at 18^th.

MEN PICKED FIRST, WOMEN THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL: The Jackrabbit men were picked to win the Summit League again this year while the women were placed third in the preseason indoor track and field poll announced by Summit League officials Wednesday.
