BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State returns home to close out its second week of the 2023 season on Sunday as the Jackrabbits prepare to host Iowa State. The Jacks and Cyclones will square off at Fishback Soccer Park at 1 p.m. as the two programs meet for the first time since 2018.

The Jackrabbits sit 3-0 overall this season while Iowa State stands at 2-1. The Cyclones opened the season with wins over Arizona (2-1) and Northern Colorado (1-0), while they fell on Thursday to Iowa by a 2-1 score.

SDSU used a late second half goal to leave Des Moines on Thursday with a 2-1 victory over Drake.
Maya Hansen scored her fourth goal of the season in the 14th minute to go up 1-0. The Bulldogs evened the score by taking advantage of an SDSU miscue deep on the Jackrabbit side of the field to tie it with a goal in the 63rd minute. The Jacks scored the game-winning goal in the 78th minute when
Maleah Evans sent a deep pass to
Avery Murdzek who scored her first goal of the season.

SDSU holds a 3-7-2 record against the Cyclones. The two met once every year from 2008-18 with this year's meeting the first since that span. The Jackrabbits' are 1-6-1 in the last eight matchups, with their last victory in 2014.

The Jackrabbits opened their 2023 season last week by earning back-to-back victories against non-Division I competition. SDSU defeated Manitoba by a 4-0 score on Thursday, then beat Augustana by a 6-0 margin on Saturday.Â

Each win featured program highlights for the Jacks. In the win over Manitoba, senior
Maya Hansen became SDSU's all-time leading scorer by registering her 40th career goal. Following the match against Augustana, she now holds program records of 43 goals and 105 career points.

SDSU's win against the Vikings came in front a record crowd of 505 spectators at Fishback Soccer Park. That topped the program's previous record of 474 which was set in 2010. The Jacks combined for seven assists in the match, the sixth most ever in a game. The goal total and 19 points were the most by the Jackrabbits in a game since 2021.

Due to ongoing construction on 20th Street in Brookings, 20th Street and the intersection at Medary Avenue is again closed. Fans MUST access games at Fishback Soccer Park through the south entrance on Medary on Sunday from 32nd Street South by heading South on Main Avenue or 22nd Avenue.
