South Dakota State opens the 2024 Summit League Women's Soccer Championship on Friday when the Jackrabbits play host during the quarterfinal round. The Jacks are set to take on South Dakota at 6 p.m. at FIshback Soccer Park. Tickets, which at $10 for adults and $5 for children, are available to purchase on site with cash only as well as online at JackrabbitTickets.com.
The Jackrabbits earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament with a regular season finale victory over Oral Roberts. South Dakota, which is the No. 6 seed, fell to Denver in its finale. The winner of the match in Brookings will take on Denver in the semifinals of the tournament on Nov. 7. The semifinals and championship are being held in Fargo, N.D., at regular season champion North Dakota State.
SDSU is 11-6-6 all-time in The Summit League tournament. The Jackrabbits have qualified for every Summit League Championship tournament but one (2012) since the 2008 season. Friday will be SDSU's first quarterfinal appearance ever, with The Summit League growing its tournament field from four to six teams back in 2022.
South Dakota State faces its closest foe possible in the league as South Dakota pays another visit to Brookings. The Jacks and Yotes each scored first-half goals en route to a 1-1 draw at Fishback on Oct. 11. While SDSU holds a 9-6-3 record all-time, it has been a highly contested series of late with the Jacks 1-1-3 in the last five meetings. This will be the first tournament matchup between the two sides.
The Jackrabbits earned their 12th overall victory last Sunday versus ORU by a 1-0 score. SDSU has recorded at least 10 wins in 12 consecutive seasons. SDSU has now won at least 12 matches in each of the last seven campaigns, while the season prior the program recorded 11 in
Brock Thompson's first season as head coach.
SDSU has had a variety of close calls in matches this season. The Jackrabbits are 5-4 in one-goal games this year with all four losses coming by a single goal margin. SDSU is 9-0 this season when scoring two-plus goals. The Jackrabbits' best win streak of the season was snapped on Oct. 11 when they tied the Coyotes despite scoring the first goal. SDSU is 11-1-1 when getting on the board first.
