BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Jacks picked up a win against Utah Valley on Friday night in a closely contested dual.
The dual started at 125 pounds as Tanner Jordan took on Bridger Ricks to start off the Jackrabbits. After giving up an early takedown to Ricks, Jordan battled back with two escapes and rode out Ricks in the third to send the dual to Sudden Victory. After failing to score in the first period, Jordan rode out Ricks again in the tiebreaker to take the match 4-3.
At 133 pounds, the Jacks gave the start to Cale Seaton, who was making his dual debut. Seaton held his own for two periods against Kase Mauger but found himself on the wrong end of a loss by fall, putting the Jacks down 6-3, heading to 141 pounds.
141 pounds featured the only ranked matchup of the night in No. 21 Julian Tagg taking on No. 23 Haiden Drury. Tagg gave up a late takedown in period one, putting Drury up 3-0 heading to the second. Tagg failed to score a takedown in the third, putting the match out of reach as Drury clinched a decision.
Colin Dupill got the Jacks back on the right track as he scored two takedowns against Smokey McClure. After cutting McClure loose in the third Dupill attempted to score one more takedown with 10 seconds left but was unsuccessful, accepting a 7-3 decision win, cutting the Utah Valley lead to 6-9.
Cobe Siebrecht followed Dupill up with an action-packed first period at 157 pounds against Ryker Fullmer. After scoring a takedown, Siebrecht gave up a reversal and a 2-point near fall, giving Fullmer the lead, before reversing it right back to take a 5-4 lead into the second. After Fullmer rode out Siebrecht in the second, Siebrecht scored a takedown in the third to clinch an 8-6 decision and tie up the dual at the intermission.
After intermission, Marcus Espinoza-Owens took on No. 4 Terrell Barraclough. Barraclough took control of the match in the first, scoring a takedown and riding out Espinoza-Owens, and after scoring an escape in the second, did the same again. This led to a major decision win for Barraclough, once again putting the Wolverines up by 4.
Cade DeVos looked to even the score against Mark Takara. DeVos successfully scored a takedown in the first and rode out Takara, putting him up 3-0 heading to the second. After scoring an escape in the second, DeVos put another takedown on Takara, adding to his lead, 7-0. A takedown in the third secured a major decision, 12-2, once again tying the dual at 13.
No. 6 Bennett Berge took on Caleb Uhlenhopp at 184 pounds. After scoring two takedowns in the first, Berge continued to put the pressure on Uhlenhopp, scoring again in the second. A late takedown by Uhlenhopp knocked Berge out of a bonus point victory, accepting a 14-7 decision and putting the Jacks up 16-13.
At 197 pounds, Thomas Dineen failed to recover from an early takedown by Kael Bennie and dropped a 6-1 decision to knot the score up at 16-16 heading to the heavyweights.
Luke Rasmussen stepped up for the Jacks and took care of business against Jack Forbes. After an opening takedown defense led to a score of his own, Rasmussen rolled Forbes for three near falls and took a tech fall victory, 20-4, securing the match for the Jacks, 21-16.
