South Dakota State returns to Fishback Soccer Park on Sunday when the Jackrabbits host Northern Colorado. The 1 p.m. match versus the Bears serves as SDSU's annual Goald game.Â
The Jackrabbit soccer program has
teamed up with Northwestern Mutal to raise funds for Alex's Lemonade Stand. The Goald Game tradition, which began in 2019, has the Jacks wear Gold in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Money raised by the program will help pay for research to find better treatments and cures for childhood cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear gold/yellow while new Goald Game t-shirts will be on sale on site for $15 (cash only). Last year's game raised over $3,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand while the attendance of 473 was the program's fourth highest single-match crowd.
Jackrabbit fans that attend Saturday's SDSU football game versus Drake can bring their ticket to Sunday's match for free admission into Fishback Soccer Park. Head coach
Brock Thompson will also donate $1 to Alex's Lemonade for every person in attendance at Sunday's match.
South Dakota State begins the second portion of a lengthy homestand on Sunday. SDSU hosts five straight matches and is in the midst of a six games out of seven stretch at Fishback Soccer Park. The Jackrabbits take on Northern Colorado then close out their non-conference schedule on Thursday taking on Wyoming. State begins its Summit League slate on Thursday, Sept. 25, versus St. Thomas.
The Jackrabbits and Bears meet for the second consecutive year. SDSU defeated Northern Colorado in Greeley last season, 2-0, in each team's second match of the 2024 schedule. SDSU outshot UNC by an 11-3 margin and were paced by goals from
Adrianne Agbayani and
Mia Bosch. SDSU is 2-6 all-time against the Bears.
Northern Colorado enters Sunday's contest with a 1-4-3 record. Every match in 2025 has been decided by one goal or less for the Bears. UNC most recently recorded a 1-1 draw at South Dakota on Thursday despite playing down a player, with 10 on the field, over the match's final 20 minutes.
SDSU heads into Sunday with a 4-1-3 record. The Jackrabbits most recently topped Drake, 1-0, in Des Moines on Wednesday.
Lauren Walter's first goal as a Jackrabbit made the difference in the victory. Reigning Kwik Star Defensive Peak performer of the Week,
Mallorie Benhart, made five saves. SDSU extended its unbeaten streak to six games, matching its best unbeaten streak a season ago.Â
South Dakota State's lineup has featured a variety of individuals playing significant roles. The Jackrabbits' scoring has been buoyed by their underclassmen. SDSU's top eight point scorers are underclassmen and are paced by sophomore
Hailee Christensen's nine points. Two players have appeared for over 550 minutes on the pitch this year in Christensen (591) and senior newcomer
Taylor Thomas (681).
