VERMILLION, S.D. - SDSU opened its Summit League schedule with a dominant win over in-state rival USD on Friday night.

SDSU was in vintage form during the match, with Sylvie Zgonc putting up 19 kills on 46 swings and Rylee Martin recording 40 assists, her first 40-assist game of the season. Taylor Byl added four blocks and four kills, and Hannah Klein picked up 11 kills and three blocks.

The Jacks were able to hold all of USD's attackers under 10 kills, while forcing 14 Coyote attack errors and keeping them to a .163 hitting percentage during the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1: The two teams matched each other to start the game, but an early won challenge by USD prompted a 3-0 run that put USD ahead 7-3. But the Jacks battled back and went on a 4-0 run to get the game back within two at 10-12. USD was able to rally and force the media timeout, getting to 15 points first, but it was all Jackrabbits from there, tying the score at 18-18 and going on a 4-0 run to finish the set, 25-21.

Set 2: The two squads once again traded blows in the second, trading points until the score was 10-10, when suddenly USD unleashed a 3-0 run to take a 13-10 lead on the Jacks. The Jacks responded with a 3-0 run of their own, before adding a 5-0 run to push their lead out to 21-15. From there, it was too late for the Coyotes as SDSU finished off the set with a side out, 25-20.

Set 3: It was all Jacks in set three, getting out to an 8-3 lead early and keeping the Coyotes out of the set for the rest of it. SDSU was able to stave off a USD 3-0 run in the middle of the set to force the media timeout at 15-9. A 3-0 run for the Jacks at the 20-point mark put them up 22-16 and was the nail in the coffin for the Coyotes as Zgonc finished the set out with two kills and a block assist to take the match, 25-18.

Two Jacks had double-doubles: Rylee Martin with 40 assists and 10 digs, and Sylvie Zgonc with 19 kills and 13 digs.
Joslyn Richardson added 15 digs and two assists in her return to action.
