MACON, Ga. - South Dakota State senior
McKenzie Mages fired a 67 (-5) for the opening round of the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational Friday and is in first place through 29 holes of the 54-hole event.
Mages notched six birdies on the first lap to tally the best single round of her senior season thus far. Mages is even par for her second lap and still -5 overall. After day one, only three strokes separate the top-five players.
The tournament, originally scheduled for 18 holes per day over three days, had its schedule adjusted due to expected weather conditions in Georgia on Saturday morning. All players finished one round Friday, then completed as many as 14 holes of round two. The teams will return to the course Saturday afternoon to finish round two, then will play round three as scheduled on Sunday.
Hannah Boraas is tied for 47th place with a +8 scorecard, followed by
Reese Jansa in a tie for 52nd place at +9.
Riko Danjo and
Molly O'Hara are both +11 and tied for 66th place.
Hannah Pettitt is competing individually for the Jackrabbits this weekend. She is has a 13-over scorecard and is tied for 71st place.
The SDSU team is tied for eighth place at +18. UNC Greensboro leads the field with a -2 team tally, followed by Virginia Tech, which is even par.
NOTES
- SDSU has 93 pars so far, which is tied for second among all teams.
- McKenzie Mages has seven birdies, which is tied for second among all players.
UP NEXT
The remainder of the second round will be played Saturday afternoon. Round three is set for Sunday.
