BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Jackrabbits dropped a five-set thriller, 3-2 against RV Tulsa on Saturday afternoon at the Kansas Invitational.

Sylvie Zgonc led the way with 22 kills, and Brooke Larsen put up a triple-double as she put away 11 kills, 23 assists, and 11 digs.

On Tulsa's end, AAC Preseason Player of the Year Jill Hanson was as advertised as she put up 17 kills and 10 blocks against the Jacks. Campbell Hague followed it up with 15 kills and three aces of her own.

The Jacks head back to South Dakota next weekend to compete in the South Dakota Lottery College Volleyball Classic, where they will play Washington and No. 13 Minnesota.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Set 1: Coming off of yesterday's loss to KU, the Jacks came ready to play in set one. The two teams traded points early, before SDSU got an early 11-10 lead on the back of two Zgonc kills. A 3-0 run for the Jacks after the timeout cemented a gap between the two sides, and the Jackrabbits were able to ride the momentum out to take the set, 25-19.

Set 2: The Golden Hurricane turned it on in the second set. An early 3-0 run for Tulsa put them up 5-2, and they kept the gap for most of the set. With the set at 10-7, the Golden Hurricane were able to put together multiple pairs of points to extend the lead out to 15-11 and force the media timeout. The Jacks were never able to close the five-point gap as Tulsa clinched the set, 25-20.

Set 3: Tulsa got off to a hot start in third, going on a 6-2 run to start the set. Another 5-0 run at 9-6 cemented an insurmountable gap at 13-7. From there, the Golden Hurricane held a six-to-seven-point lead for the rest of the set, eventually clinching the set, 25-17.

Set 4: SDSU battled back in the fourth set. Tulsa got out to a 7-4 lead in early in the set before the Jackrabbits rallied back a four-point run of their own to take a 9-8 lead over the Golden Hurricane. Momentum shifted back and forth as the two teams were deadlocked at 18 before a Tulsa timeout. The score was knotted up at 22-22 all before SDSU unleashed a two-point run on an ace from Kennedey Whitford and a Zgonc kill. Hannah Klein clinched the set for the Jacks on a kill, 25-23.

Set 5: Tulsa staved off the Jacks in the fifth set, getting out to 6-2 lead. The Golden Hurricane were able to keep the Jacks at a distance as they piled on to win the match, 3-2 after taking the fifth set, 15-8.
