JACKS BREAK ATTENDANCE RECORD AGAINST HUSKERS

BROOKINGS, S.D. - SDSU Volleyball broke the First Bank & Trust Arena attendance record on Wednesday night as the No.1 team in the country, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, came to town.Â
The Jacks battled with the Huskers for two sets, posting scores of 25-18 and 25-20, before being overwhelmed in the third, 25-15.Â
Sylvie Zgonc ended the match with 12 kills, while Taylor Byl set a new career high with five blocks.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Set 1: First Bank & Trust Arena was rocking for the first serve as 5,113 fans packed into the arena to watch the two teams battle. SDSU battled right from the get-go, trading points with the Huskers. A 3-0 run at 7-4 for the Huskers allowed Nebraska to jump ahead, where they would stay for the majority of the set, with the Jacks not far behind. The Jacks would hold the Husker lead to three down the stretch before the Cornhuskers put away the set, 25-18.Â
Set 2: The Jacks came out firing in the second set, taking an early 2-1 lead over Nebraska. The Huskers rallied back and were up 9-4 before the Jacks settled in with a Hannah Klein kill after a service error. Sylvie Zgonc and Marisa Michaelis added kills on a 3-0 run for the Jacks before trading points all the way up until the technical timeout, where another Zgonc kill allowed the Jacks to take a 15-14 lead. Nebraska would respond after the timeout, and after the two teams traded blows to get the score to 19-19, the Huskers took control, finishing out the set, 25-20.
Set 3: Set Three proved to be more difficult for the Jacks. The Huskers came out firing with a 6-1 early lead and never looked back from there, as they handled SDSU in set three, 25-15.
