BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Jacks open their season at home with a bang against the #1 team in the country, the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Cornhuskers have started strong, going 2-0 with a quality win over #2 Texas. The Jacks finish their weekend by hosting the SDSU Invitational against Western Illinois, Northern Arizona, and Bradley.Â
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State Volleyball is coming off back-to-back 20+ win seasons for the first time since 2006-2007.Â
- Assistant coach Cole Aiazzi was a GA at Nebraska in 2016 under John Cook and current Nebraska head coach Dani Busboom Kelly. Assistant coach Kelly Natter was also the setter on the 2016 squad.
- SDSU was picked to win the Summit League in the preseason poll following a 16-0 conference record in 2025.
- Sylvie Zgonc returns for her fourth year in the yellow and blue. Zgonc is a two-time Summit League Player of the Year and is one of two Division I volleyball players chasing a third consecutive conference Player of the Year award (Olivia Babcock).
- Sylvie Zgonc picked up the first Summit League Peak Performer Honors of the year after her two 20+ kill games at the Asics Classic.
- Rylee Martin returns for her senior season as a Jackrabbit. Martin was a first-team All-Summit League selection last season and has already surpassed 2,000 assists for her career, currently sitting ninth in program history.
- Hannah Klein set a career high in kills against Villanova on Sunday with 18. She currently sits second on the team in kills with 35, averaging 2.69 per set.
- Brooke Larsen has been everywhere for the Jacks this season. She is second on the team in blocks with nine, has 17 kills and 50 assists so far this season.
- SDSU is the first team in Summit League history to host the #1 team in the country and the first since 2000 to play them in a match.
- Joslyn Richardson returns for her senior season with the Jacks after breaking the program's single-season record for aces in 2025 (41). Richardson has three already this season, all against Villanova on Sunday.
- Sylvie Zgonc hit .452 against Sacramento State on Friday, her highest hitting percentage since August of 2024 when she had 25 kills against Florida A&M.
- SDSU brings in eight newcomers to their squad in 2026. This includes four freshmen, three transfers, and one Brooklyn Meyer, a two-time All-American honorable mention for the Jackrabbits women's basketball team.
