BROOKINGS, S.D. - The SDSU volleyball team fell to the No. 22-ranked Kansas Jayhawks at the Kansas Invitational on Friday afternoon, 3-0.

Sylvie Zgonc and Hannah Klein put up solid performances, racking up 12 and 10 kills respectively, but it wasn't enough to power the Jackrabbits to a win. On the Jayhawk side, Taylor Stanley and Grace Nelson put up 16 and nine kills, while both hitting over .400 against the Jacks.

The Jackrabbits fell to 4-4 on the year and have one more match left at the Kansas Invitational as they take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, who are 7-0 this year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Set 1: Kansas got out to an early lead, 3-0, as the Jacks looked to find their footing inside of the Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena. The Jackrabbits fought back but Kansas forced the media timeout, taking a 15-10 lead into the break. SDSU came out hot from the timeout, putting together a 4-0 run to close the gap to 19-18. The Jayhawks were able to stave off the Jackrabbits just enough to clinch the set 25-20, on the back of a 3-0 run.

Set 2: The second set was another battle between the two teams. Both squads traded points right off the bat before the Jackrabbits pulled ahead with a 10-9 lead. The Jayhawks started to pull together and rallied off a couple of points to force the media timeout at 15-12. KU came out hot from the media timeout and extended their lead to 19-15. The two squads once again traded points, but the Jayhawks rattled off a 3-0 run to force the end of the set, 25-19.

Set 3: The Jackrabbits and Jayhawks fought back and forth in the third set. The Jayhawks pulled ahead by two after being tied 13-13 to force the media timeout at 15-15. Two 3-0 runs allowed the Jayhawks to take a 23-18 lead. The Jacks fought back, getting the score to 23-20 and forcing a KU timeout, but it ultimately proved too late as the Jayhawks scored two quick points out of the set and clinched the match, 25-20, three sets to none.

NOTES:

Hannah Klein led the team in hitting percentage, hitting .429 on the day.
Kennedey Whitford and Rylee Martin added the only two Jackrabbit aces of the day.
Jayhawks had an aggressive serve putting up nine aces and 12 service errors. Jackrabbits had two aces and 10 service errors.
