FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The South Dakota State women's soccer team starts the Summit League schedule with a 1-0 overtime win over IPFW Friday in Fort Wayne, Ind.
After two scoreless periods, Christa Nyblom scored the only goal of the game just 37 seconds into the overtime period. Kelsey Ferguson fed Nyblom who scored off a header from nine yards out of the net.
"We played very well for most of the game and created some quality chances to score," said head coach Lang Wedemeyer. "To IPFW's credit, they hung in there and became more dangerous as the game wore on. It was great to see us finish right at the beginning of overtime."
Elisa Stamatakis, who improves her record to 6-0-2, tallied two saves in the net for the Jackrabbits. Stamatakis records her fifth career shutout with the win over the Mastodons.
Nyblom led the Jacks with four shots and one on-goal, while Stéphanie Bérubé tallied three shots and two on-goal from her defender position.
The Jacks outshot the Mastodons 19-10, including 9-2 on-goal.
The Jacks, now 6-1-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, head to Rochester, Mich. to battle Oakland Sunday at 1 p.m.
