BROOKINGS, S.D. - Kayla Braffet netted the Jackrabbits only goal as the South Dakota State women's soccer team tied Western Illinois 1-1 Sunday at Fishback Soccer Park.
Just under five minutes into the game, Kaitlin Justice sent a pass to Braffet who found the back of the net. The goal marks Braffet's fourth goal on the season.
The tying goal came in the 32nd minute of the game when Jordan Spaciel of Western Illinois beat Elisa Stamatakis on the right side.
"I thought Western really had us on our heels in the first half, but we rebounded well in the second half," said head coach Lang Wedemeyer. "Similar to so many games this season, we created enough chances to win but couldn't pull out a goal when it was most needed."
Stamatakis, whose record now stands at 7-1-3, tallied six saves in her 110 minutes in the net.
Braffet and Justice fired off six and five shots, respectively, and Braffet with two on-goal. The Jacks outshot the Fighting Leathernecks 20-13, but tied in shots on-goal with seven each.
The Jacks, now 7-2-4 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference, take the action on the road as they travel to Southern Utah Thursday and UMKC Saturday for a pair of Summit League matchups. Thursday's match is set to begin at 3 p.m. Mountain Time in Cedar City, Utah.
