VERMILLION, S.D. – A late Coyotes goal dealt South Dakota State (14-2-1, 5-1-1 SUMMIT) its first Summit League loss of the season on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Vermillion. The Jackrabbits conceded the difference-maker with only a minute and six seconds left in the contest to fall, 2-1, to South Dakota (10-3-2, 5-2-0 SUMMIT).
Cece Limongi scored her sixth goal of the season in the loss while
Avery Murdzek recorded an assist to increase her season point total to 17.
Maya Hansen registered a team-high five shots but saw her school record six-game scoring streak come to an end.
USD started the scoring in the 34
th minute when the Coyotes were awarded a free kick after a yellow card was assessed to
Adalaide Kline. USD sent the free kick into the box where
Jocelyn Tanner collided with a Coyote defender and the ball found its way into the back of the net.
The Jacks drew level with a fast start in the second half when Murdzek fed Limongi a pass into the box and didn't hesitate to place it into the lower right corner.
The Coyotes were awarded a late corner kick and were able to net the go-ahead goal with just over a minute remaining.
SDSU owned the possession battle, 60% to 40%, but ultimately fell to the Coyotes.
