Brookings, S.D. - The South Dakota State wrestling team finished their weekend by hosting the Warren Williamson Daktronics Invitational.
Drake Rhodes continued his hot start to life as a Jackrabbit, going 3-0 on the day at 165 with all three wins coming with bonus points.
Brady Roark competed at 125 pounds, where he started his day off going against the No.1 125 pound wrestler in the country in Richard Figueroa. Roark would land one takedown before an injury timeout for Figueroa and another after the injury timeout before Figueroa defaulted due to a leg injury. Roark also picked up a win over #31 Antonio Lorenzo, grinding out a 1-0 win with an escape.
Freshman Cale Seaton scored three decision wins on his way to a 3-0 day at the Invitational. Derrick Cardinal put on an entertaining display at the Invitational scoring a tech fall and two major decisions, going 3-0 on the day.
Avery Allen rallied back after a loss to Arizona State's Daniel Miranda, scoring a major decision against NDSU's Michael Olson in his final match of the day.
Marcus Espinoza-Owens wrestled at 165 pounds after moving up to 174 pounds for the dual against Augustana. Espinoza-Owens went 4-0 on the day with two major decisions, a tech fall and a decision win.
Bennett Berge went 3-0 at the Invitational scoring a tech fall and two decision wins including a decision win over Oklahoma's #26 DJ Parker, 9-3.
The Jacks put up a strong showing at 197 pounds as Zach Glazier and Thomas Dineen went 3-0 for the day. Glazier scored three tech falls on the day and Dineen scored a pin and two major decisions including a major decision win over #24 Bradley Hill from Oklahoma.
UP NEXT
The next event for the Jacks is their dual against Northern Iowa on Nov. 24th in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Panthers are ranked 14th in the NWCA Coaches Poll, one spot below the Jackrabbits. Bennett Berge will have an interesting test ahead of him in the Panther's 184-pounder Parker Keckeisen, who is ranked No. 2 in the country at 184 pounds but is coming off a loss to Carter Starocci at the NWCA All-Star Classic.
