South Dakota State returns home to play at Fishback Soccer Park for the first time in over two weeks on Sunday. The Jackrabbits will host Oregon State at 1 p.m. on their home field as a part of their annual Hometown Heroes match.Â
SDSU is coming off a three-match, week-long stay in Hawaii. The Jackrabbits went 2-0-1 in that span as they defeated Hawaii Pacific (2-0) and Cal Baptist (1-0), while they tied Northern Arizona (1-1). Â
Several individuals stood out on the trip.
Hailee Christensen extended her active scoring streak to four matches as she scored a goal in the win over Hawaii Pacific and dished an assist apiece in the matches versus Cal Baptist and NAU.
Deizha Lyn Jacinto sits in a tie for the team lead of three goals, alongside Christensen, with her tally in the CBU win.
Jenna Maloy scored her first-career goal in the win over the Lancers.
Adrianne Agbayani notched her first goal of the year in the draw against the Lumberjacks.
Four Jackrabbits have now started in all six matches so far this season in Christensen,
Taylor Thomas,
Mia Bosch and Maloy. South Dakota State is 3-1-2 overall this season. The Jackrabbits' lone loss is a 1-0 defeat to Kansas on Aug. 17. The Jayhawks are currently ranked No. 21/22 in the national polls.
Christensen leads the Jackrabbits in scoring with nine points. She has a team-high three goals, tied with Jacinto, along with pacing SDSU with nine assists. She scored 11 points during her freshman campaign last year.
Senior and first-year Jackrabbit
Taylor Thomas has played the most on the pitch this season for SDSU. The defender has started in all six matches and played 501 minutes. She's played the full 90 minutes in four contests. Following her are Christensen (415),
Taryn Hettich (402) and Maloy (372).
Two players have spent time at goalkeeper for the Jackrabbits.
Mallorie Benhart has played in four games and
Stephanie Leckwold has appeared twice. Both have 0.50 goals against averages and over .800 save percentages.
Oregon State is 0-3-2 heading into Sunday's match in Brookings. The Beavers most recently fell to Nebraska 2-0 on Thursday in Lincoln.
The Jackrabbits and Beavers met a season ago for the first time since Oregon State won a 3-0 contest in Corvallis in 2005. Again playing on the Beavers' home field on Sept. 15, OSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead 35 minutes into the meeting. SDSU responded with an
Avery Murdzek goal in the 44th minute to make it a 2-1 match at halftime. Jackrabbit then seniors
Kaycee Manding and
Avery LeBlanc scored goals two minutes apart, midway through the second half, en route to South Dakota State claiming a 3-2 victory.Â
