BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Jackrabbits are off to Lawrence, Kansas, this weekend to compete in the Kansas Invitational against #22 Kansas and Tulsa, who is receiving votes in the AVCA poll. The Jacks are coming off a 3-1 home week, with their only loss coming to #1 Nebraska. The Jacks lost only one set at their Invitational and will come out swinging as they take on Coach Georgalas' alma mater.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State Volleyball is coming off back-to-back 20+ win seasons for the first time since 2006-2007.
- SDSU was picked to win the Summit League in the preseason poll following a 16-0 conference record in 2025.
- Sylvie Zgonc returns for her fourth year in the yellow and blue. Zgonc is a two-time Summit League Player of the Year and is one of two Division I volleyball players chasing a third consecutive conference Player of the Year award (Olivia Babcock).
- Zgonc is two for two on Summit League Offensive Peak Performer of the Week awards.
- Hannah Klein broke the program's record for solo blocks in a three-match set in her last game against Bradley with five. The sophomore is second on the team in kills per set with 2.96, after besting her career high in kills with 18 against Villanova.
- Brooke Larsen is finding her footing within the Jackrabbits system. The sophomore has 35 kills, 123 assists, and 48 digs this season, along with 12 blocks.
- Joslyn Richardson is picking up right where she left off last season, with a team-leading eight aces so far this season. She also leads the team in digs with 91.
- Taylor Byl was fantastic last week against the Huskers. The redshirt sophomore had five total blocks, including two solos against the number one team in the country.
- Dan Georgalas returns to his alma mater this weekend as the Jacks go to Lawrence. Georgalas began his coaching career as a student assistant at the University of Kansas. After graduating in 2010, he stayed on for a year as a volunteer assistant for the Jayhawks
- Claire Logeais holds the team lead in blocks with 15.
- Sylvie Zgonc currently leads the nation in total kills with 131 and total points with 144.0. She is third in the country in kills per set (5.04) and fifth in points per set (5.54).
