Bison Open
FARGO, N.D. - The Jackrabbit wrestling program started their season on Saturday at the Bison Open. SDSU put up a strong showing at the Bison Open, crowning six champions.
Tanner Jordan and Brady Roark paced the pack at 125 pounds at the Bison Open. Jordan went 3-0 with two wins by technical fall and one by major decision. Roark went 4-0 with two wins by major decision, one win by tech fall and one by decision. The duo was crowned co-champions at 125 pounds.
Derrick Cardinal put up a dominant performance at 133 pounds. He scored two tech fall wins en route to a 2-0 record and the 133-pound championship at the Bison Open. Avery Allen got past an opening-round loss to Dawson Johson to go 3-1 on the day and take home the championship at 141 pounds. Colin Dupil and Daniel Kimball finished second and third at 149 pounds, going 2-1 and 1-2, respectively. Moses Espinoza-Owens finished third at 157 pounds, going 3-1 with one win by pinfall.
The Jacks dominated at 165 pounds as Drake Rhodes, Connor Gaynor and Marcus Espinoza-Owens finished first, second and third, respectively. Rhodes finished the day 3-0 with two wins by tech fall, Gaynor went 2-1 with one win by pinfall, and Espinoza-Owens went 4-1 with his only loss coming to his teammate Gaynor.
Cody Donnelly shot out to a quick 2-0 start with two wins by pinfall in the first minute of his matches. He would go 3-1 daily, finishing second in the 197-pound weight class. Brock Fettig put up a 3-1 record in his debut at 197, and Thomas Dineen went 2-1 with a tech fall and a major decision win.
Luke Rasmussen dominated his two matches at the Bison Open, going 2-0 and taking home the title at 285 pounds after two major decision wins.
DWU Open
Mitchell, S.D. - The Jackrabbits sent five freshmen, Jared Thiry and Regan Bollweg to Mitchell, S.D. to compete in the DWU Open at Dakota Wesleyan. The Jacks brought home 4 champions from the DWU Open.
In their first collegiate action at 133 pounds, Cale Seaton and Logan Swensen went 4-0 in their bracket before being crowned co-champions at 133 pounds. Swensen had two wins by pinfall, and Seaton scored bonus points in two matches.
Tyson Peach went a perfect 5-0 in his first collegiate action with two wins by pinfall, one by major decision and one by tech fall on his way to the 141-pound title at the DWU Open.
Quin Morgan got a pinfall in his debut for the Jacks and didn't look back. Morgan would finish 5-0 with two wins by pinfall, one by tech fall and two by decision on his way to the 197-pound crown at the DWU Open.
Burk Blasius finished as the runner-up at 184 pounds, going 4-1 in action on Saturday, He would win three matches by technical fall but would come just short in the championship match against Augustana's Cade Mueller.
In other action, Jared Thiry went 4-2 in competition on the day, including one major decision and one tech fall win. Heavyweight Regan Bollweg dropped his first match by pin but rallied back, finishing fifth and putting up a 4-2 record on the day.
UP NEXT
The Jackrabbits open home competition with a pair of events next weekend. SDSU hosts the Augustana for dual action beginning at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15th, it will be the first home dual to take place in First Bank & Trust Arena. On Nov. 16th, Cade DeVos and Tanner Jordan will compete at the NWCA All-Star Classic in State College, Pa. On Nov. 17, the Jackrabbits will host the Daktronics Invitaitonalwhich, which is slated for a 10 a.m. start at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
